Brand Overview
Hitachi, Ltd. is a Japanese multinational conglomerate headquartered in Tokyo, founded in 1910 by electrical engineer Namihei Odaira. What began as a repair shop inside a copper mine now spans digital systems, energy, railways, construction machinery and industrial equipment, united under the long-running promise “Inspire the Next”.

History of the Hitachi Logo
Hitachi’s name joins the characters for “sun” and “rise” — chosen by Odaira to reflect a founding philosophy of looking up. The black italic-leaning wordmark served the group for decades; in 2025 Hitachi introduced a redrawn wordmark with squarer, steadier letterforms, signalling the group’s shift from heavy industry toward digital and green transformation while keeping the name unmistakably itself.
Meaning of the Hitachi Logo
- Name only: like Liebherr, Hitachi bets everything on the word — no symbol competes with it anywhere on earth.
- The squared letters: the 2025 redraw trades speed-lean for stability — a digital-era conglomerate standing square.
- Black: the colour of engineering record — every division, from trains to software, signs in the same black.

Conclusion
A rising sun compressed into seven black letters: the Hitachi wordmark has carried a century of Japanese industry without raising its voice.
