- Founder / Formed by: The State of New York (created as the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation Authority; renamed MTA in 1968)

- Industry: Public transport
- Website: mta.info
History of the MTA Logo
New York State created the authority in 1965 to rescue the region’s failing commuter railroads, renaming it the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 1968 as it took over the subway and buses. Its current identity — bold white MTA letters inside a deep blue disc — has fronted the unified network since the 1990s and appears on everything from subway cars to the MetroCard’s successors. The current MTA logo presented on this page is the official mark in use today, kept in its original colors and proportions.
Meaning of the MTA Logo
- The solid blue disc is a unifying badge for the many railroads, subways and bus networks the MTA brought under one authority.
- The heavy white MTA initials are cut to stay legible at platform distance and at small sizes on maps and tickets.
- The deep blue projects civic authority and reliability for the largest transport network in North America.
