History of the JR Central Logo
JR Central was established on 1 April 1987, when Japanese National Railways was divided into seven regional companies. Like its sister companies it adopted the common JR lettermark, finished in its own corporate colour: a vivid orange that has marked its Shinkansen and conventional trains in central Japan ever since. The current JR Central logo presented on this page is the official mark in use today, kept in its original colors and proportions.
Meaning of the JR Central Logo
- The shared JR lettermark signals membership of the Japan Railways Group, formed from the old national railway in 1987.
- The bold, slanted letterforms convey the speed of the Tokaido Shinkansen, JR Central’s flagship service.
- The orange colour is JR Central’s identity colour, chosen to stand apart from the other JR companies and to project energy and warmth.
