Brand Overview

Cummins Inc. is an American multinational that designs and builds diesel and natural-gas engines, power-generation equipment, turbochargers and filtration systems. Founded in Columbus, Indiana in 1919 by mechanic Clessie Cummins with backing from banker William G. Irwin, it has grown into the world’s largest independent engine manufacturer, its diesels powering trucks, buses, construction machines, trains and generators worldwide.

History of the Cummins Logo

The famous Cummins “C” arrived in the 1960s as the company outgrew its regional roots, replacing plainer lettering with one confident letterform. The red block C with the Cummins name scripted diagonally across it has stayed essentially unchanged for decades — a rarity in corporate identity — because it reads instantly on an engine block, a truck grille or a service sign at highway speed.

Meaning of the Cummins Logo

• The big C: one letter does all the work — short, ownable and impossible to confuse with any other engine brand.
• The diagonal script: the handwritten-style name cuts across the block at an angle, adding motion and a human signature to the industrial geometry.
• Cummins red: a signal red chosen for visibility and urgency — the colour of the service network that keeps engines running.

Conclusion

A single red letter, signed in white: the Cummins logo is as direct and hard-working as the engines it is bolted onto.
