History of the China Railway Logo
China’s state railway passed from the Ministry of Railways to China Railway Corporation in 2013 and was restructured as the China State Railway Group in 2019, but its emblem is far older. The mark was designed by Chen Yuchang and officially adopted on 22 January 1950, and it still appears on locomotives, stations and rolling stock across the country today. The current China Railway logo presented on this page is the official mark in use today, kept in its original colors and proportions.
Meaning of the China Railway Logo
- The whole emblem is drawn as the front view of a locomotive, the universal symbol of the railway itself.
- The upper half forms the Chinese character for ‘people’, while the lower half forms the character for ‘labour’ worked into the cross-section of a rail — together declaring that China’s railway belongs to its working people.
- The single bold red colour is the colour of China itself, giving the mark instant recognition on trains nationwide.
