History of the SNCF Logo
SNCF was created on 1 January 1938, uniting France’s private and state railway companies into one national network; it went on to launch the world-famous TGV in 1981. The current visual identity, created by the Carré Noir agency in 2005 and refined in 2011 with rounded corners and cleaner letter separation, sets white italic SNCF letters on a flowing purple-to-red gradient lozenge. The current SNCF logo presented on this page is the official mark in use today, kept in its original colors and proportions.
Meaning of the SNCF Logo
- The flowing lozenge shape evokes a flag, a ticket and a train in motion.
- The purple-to-red gradient (carmillon) blends heritage with energy and warmth.
- The italic white letters lean forward, suggesting speed — the spirit of the TGV.
