About the Bristol Myers Squibb Logo Logo
Introduction
Five violet strokes that resolve into a helping hand, followed by the company name in plain grey sans — the Bristol Myers Squibb logo in this download is the current identity introduced with the company’s 2020 rebrand.
Brand Overview
Bristol Myers Squibb is an American pharmaceutical company formed in 1989 by the merger of two nineteenth-century houses: Squibb, founded by Edward Robinson Squibb in Brooklyn in 1858, and Bristol-Myers, founded in Clinton, New York, in 1887. Headquartered in New York City, it is one of the world’s largest makers of cancer, immunology and cardiovascular medicines. Its official website is bms.com.
History of the Bristol Myers Squibb Logo
For three decades after the merger, the company used a blue serif wordmark with a geometric star-like symbol. In 2020 Bristol Myers Squibb launched a complete new identity: the symbol became an abstract hand in violet, the hyphen left the name, and the wordmark moved to a neutral grey humanist sans — the lockup in this download, still in use today.
Meaning of the Logo
- The hand: The five strokes form a hand reaching in to help — the company’s symbol for care, and for the patients at the centre of its science.
- Violet: The purple sets BMS apart in a sea of pharmaceutical blue, signalling creativity as much as rigour.
- The plain wordmark: Grey, unadorned type lets the hand carry the emotion while the name stays all business.

Conclusion
Bristol Myers Squibb’s logo is a handshake drawn in five strokes: a 19th-century partnership re-expressed as a single helping hand in violet.
