About the Perrier Logo Logo
Introduction
Seven letters in jagged green gothic type — the Perrier logo is as eccentric as the naturally sparkling water it labels, bottled at a spring in the south of France that bubbles straight out of the ground.
Brand Overview
Perrier is a naturally carbonated mineral water from the spring at Vergèze, near Nîmes in southern France, bottled commercially since 1863 under Dr. Louis Perrier. Sold in its famous green bulb-shaped bottle in more than 140 countries, the brand is owned by Nestlé. Its official website is perrier.com.
History of the Perrier Logo
Englishman Sir St John Harmsworth bought the spring in 1903, named the water after Dr. Perrier, and shaped the bottle after his Indian exercise clubs. The wordmark has kept its spiky, hand-cut character ever since — a deliberately un-smooth piece of lettering that looks slightly possessed next to the calm sans-serifs of rival waters, matching the brand’s long-running “Perrier madness” advertising personality.
Meaning of the Logo
- The jagged letterforms: Sharp, irregular strokes suggest bursting bubbles and the brand’s cultivated eccentricity — water with a personality disorder, proudly.
- Perrier green: The deep green is the bottle itself — the same green glass that has carried the water since 1903.
- No symbol needed: The lettering is so irregular it functions as its own logo; no icon has ever been required.

The wordmark is a true one-colour logo; its green is sampled directly from the artwork.
Conclusion
Perrier’s logo is sparkling water drawn as type — spiky, green and slightly mad, exactly as its advertising has promised for a century.
