About the Schweppes Logo Logo
Introduction
An elegant black signature, tilted like handwriting on a Victorian label — the Schweppes logo carries the name of the man who started the entire soft-drink industry in 1783, before almost any brand on Earth.
Brand Overview
Schweppes is the world’s oldest soft drink brand, founded in Geneva in 1783 by Jacob Schweppe, a German-Swiss jeweller who patented a practical way to carbonate water. Its tonic water, ginger ale and bitter lemon are now sold by different partners worldwide — Keurig Dr Pepper in North America among them. Its official website is schweppes.com.
History of the Schweppes Logo
Schweppe’s company supplied the Great Exhibition of 1851, and the fountain built for it became a house symbol for a century. The wordmark has remained a flowing script throughout: a gentleman’s signature rather than a designed logo, set here in its classic black form. Few trademarks can claim the same drawing hand has survived from the age of steam to the age of QR codes essentially intact.
Meaning of the Logo
- The signature script: Jacob Schweppe’s name written as a signature — a personal guarantee from the inventor of commercial soda water.
- The confident tilt: The rising angle suggests bubbles climbing a glass; the logo literally leans upward.
- Black restraint: One colour, no badge, no mascot — 240 years of reputation typeset in a single word.
Schweppes Logo Colors
| Color | Hex Code | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| Schweppes Black | #000000 | The complete script wordmark (the logo file’s own fill value) |
This is the classic one-colour Schweppes wordmark in black; on bottles it also appears in gold and white over the label colours of each market.
Conclusion
Schweppes’ logo is the signature of the industry’s founder — proof that the oldest brand in soft drinks still has the most elegant handwriting.
