About the Leroy Merlin Logo
Introduction
A bright green triangle with the founders’ names arched around it like a rising sun — the Leroy Merlin logo is one of Europe’s most familiar retail marks, the sign of the continent’s DIY giant.
Brand Overview
Leroy Merlin is a French home-improvement and gardening retailer founded in 1923 by Adolphe Leroy and Rose Merlin. Part of the Adeo Group, owned by the Mulliez family, it operates hundreds of big-box stores across Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa, selling everything from lumber to lighting. Its official website is leroymerlin.com.
History of the Leroy Merlin Logo
The business began in northern France selling surplus building materials, and grew through the century into France’s leading DIY chain. The current logo — the bold green triangle with LEROY MERLIN lettered around its slopes — dates to 1995 and has proved so durable that it still fronts the stores three decades later. The triangle does double duty: a roof over the customer’s home, and the peak of a mountain of materials.
Meaning of the Logo
- The triangle: Roof, gable, and mountain in one shape — shelter and ambition combined.
- The arched names: Both founders, Leroy and Merlin, curve around the mark like a rising sun over the roofline.
- The green: Garden, growth, and the outdoors department — a color no French retail park is without.

The lime-green triangle reads from across a retail park in any country — no translation required.
Conclusion
A century after two families joined their names, Leroy Merlin’s green triangle remains the flag of European DIY: part roof, part mountain, all home.
