Brand Overview
Smeg — Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla — was founded in 1948 in Guastalla, Italy, by Vittorio Bertazzoni, starting in metal enamelling. It became world-famous for its FAB range: rounded, candy-coloured 1950s-style refrigerators designed with architect Guido Canali and later collaborations with Dolce & Gabbana and Fiat.
- Founded: 1948, Guastalla, Italy
- Founder: Vittorio Bertazzoni
- Industry: Home appliances
- Headquarters: Guastalla, Italy
History of the Smeg Logo
Smeg’s mark pairs a dotted gradient — a row of solid circles fading like enamel bubbles — with a soft lowercase wordmark. The current black form keeps the playful rhythm of the FAB era while working as a serious premium badge on the brand’s professional ranges.
Meaning of the Smeg Logo
- The dots: the fading dot row echoes bubbles in vitreous enamel — the material Smeg was founded to work.
- The lowercase wordmark: rounded, friendly letterforms match the curved corners of a FAB fridge.
- Black only: a single-colour mark lets the products supply the colour — mint, cream, pastel blue.
