About the Compass Logo
Introduction
Seven black letters, the O replaced by a compass needle in a circle — the Compass logo is the mark of the New York brokerage that set out to rebuild real estate around technology. The file here is the exact logotype Compass serves in its own website icon system.
Brand Overview
Compass (Compass, Inc.) is an American real estate brokerage founded in New York City in 2012 by Robert Reffkin and Benis Kassahun (as Urban Compass). Built around a single platform for agents — search, CRM, marketing, and transactions in one place — it became the largest brokerage in the United States by sales volume. Its official website is compass.com.
History of the Compass Logo
Compass’s identity, kept since its early years, sets the name in a geometric sans where the O is a compass: a ring with a needle slash through it. The logotype in this download was extracted from the brand’s own icon sprite on compass.com (its “compassLogotypeProduct” asset) — the current primary wordmark, in plain black, used across the site, the app, and agent signage.
Meaning of the Logo
- The compass O: The instrument is the initial’s replacement — navigation as the brand’s whole promise: an agent who orients you in the market.
- The geometric sans: Even-weight capitals with a tech company’s neutrality — a brokerage dressed as a software product.
- Plain black: One colour, no gradients: the mark is designed to sit quietly over photography of homes.
Compass Logo Colors
| Color | Hex Code | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| Black | #000000 | The full logotype (sampled from the logo artwork) |
| White | #FFFFFF | Backgrounds and reversed applications |
The artwork is a single black fill — the logotype exactly as Compass ships it on its own site.
Conclusion
Compass’s logo swaps one letter for the instrument it is named after: a needle in a ring, guiding seven black capitals home.
