About the Wendy’s Logo
Introduction
A redheaded girl in pigtails smiles out of a circle above her own name in flowing red script — the Wendy’s logo belongs to the chain Dave Thomas founded in Ohio in 1969 and named after his daughter. The version in this download is the current identity, introduced in 2012.
Brand Overview
Wendy’s is an American fast food chain founded in Columbus, Ohio, on November 15, 1969 by Dave Thomas, and named after his fourth child, Melinda Lou “Wendy” Thomas, whose portrait became the logo. Famous for square, never-frozen beef patties and the Frosty dessert, it is now the world’s third-largest hamburger chain, headquartered in Dublin, Ohio. Its official website is wendys.com.
History of the Wendy’s Logo
Wendy herself has been redrawn only gently over the decades. The current lockup — the version in this download — came with the 2012 redesign: the portrait cleaned up inside its circle, her blue-striped ribbons kept, and the name reset in a custom flowing script modelled on handwriting, replacing the sharper sign-painter lettering of 1983–2012. The red was deepened to a single confident shade throughout.
Meaning of the Logo
- Wendy’s portrait: The founder’s daughter, freckles and pigtails intact — a real child as the face of the company, the industry’s most personal trademark.
- The script name: The wordmark flows like a signature under her picture — a person’s name, signed by hand, against the block capitals of every rival.
- Wendy’s red: One warm red (#CF202E) carries hair, dress, and name alike — the whole identity hangs on a single colour.
Wendy’s Logo Colors
| Color | Hex Code | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| Wendy’s Red | #CF202E | The wordmark, hair, and dress (the logo file’s own fill value) |
| White | #FFFFFF | The portrait’s collar and highlights (the logo file’s own fill value) |
The red and white are the artwork’s own fill values; the portrait’s smaller detail shades (ribbon blue, skin tones) are part of the illustration rather than brand colours.
Conclusion
Wendy’s logo is a family photograph as a trademark: a daughter’s portrait above her name in red script, unchanged in spirit since 1969.
