About the Versace Logo Logo
Introduction
A Medusa head ringed by Greek key, set above bold serif capitals — the Versace logo in this download is the emblem Gianni Versace chose to make the world fall in love at first sight.
Brand Overview
Versace is an Italian luxury fashion house founded in 1978 by Gianni Versace and headquartered in Milan, Italy. Famed for bold prints, gold tones and unapologetic glamour, the house is led creatively in the spirit of its founder and its artistic director Donatella Versace. Its official website is versace.com.
History of the Versace Logo
Gianni Versace adopted the Medusa in 1993, inspired by the mosaic floor of Roman ruins in his native Reggio Calabria, where a beautiful Medusa head had been unearthed. In mythology, Medusa made people fall in love with her — with no way back — and Gianni intended exactly that effect for his brand. The Medusa roundel, framed by a Greek-key (greca) border, sits above the VERSACE wordmark in classical serif capitals, the lockup in this download and the house’s emblem ever since.
Meaning of the Logo
- Medusa: Power, beauty and fatal attraction — the myth Gianni wanted every wearer to feel.
- The Greek key border: A nod to Magna Graecia, the ancient Greek heritage of southern Italy where Versace was born.
- Classical serif capitals: Roman lettering ties a rebellious brand to eternal, antique authority.
