About the Taco Bell Logo
Introduction
A purple bell tilted mid-swing above a plain black name — the Taco Bell logo is the sign of the world’s largest Mexican-inspired restaurant chain, founded by Glen Bell in California in 1962. The version in this download is the current identity, introduced in 2016.
Brand Overview
Taco Bell is an American fast food chain founded in Downey, California, in 1962 by Glen Bell, who had spent the 1950s studying the taco trade at other people’s restaurants before opening his own. Now a division of Yum! Brands and headquartered in Irvine, California, it serves more than 8,000 restaurants worldwide with its Mexican-inspired menu of tacos, burritos, and Crunchwraps. Its official website is tacobell.com.
History of the Taco Bell Logo
Taco Bell’s bell has swung through several redraws since the 1960s, from the striped mission bell of the early years to the pink-and-purple swirl of the 1990s. The current mark — the version in this download — arrived with the 2016 redesign by Lippincott: the bell simplified into a single purple arch with an elliptical swing, calmer and flatter than before, and the name reset beneath it in plain black capitals.
Meaning of the Logo
- The bell: The founder’s surname drawn as the object itself — a mission bell, stripped to one arch and its swinging clapper, a nod to the chain’s Southern California Mexican inspiration.
- Taco Bell purple: A deep violet (#5B2994) owns the symbol outright; no other major chain works in this colour, so the bell is recognisable before a single letter is read.
- The black wordmark: The name steps back in plain black grotesque capitals — the icon does the branding, the text just confirms it.

Conclusion
Taco Bell’s logo is a surname turned into a signal: one purple bell, still swinging over a black name, sixty years after Glen Bell first rang it.
