Brand Overview
Stabilo is a German brand of writing and highlighting instruments from Schwan-Stabilo, founded in Nuremberg in 1855 as a pencil factory. Its BOSS highlighter (1971) is the world’s best-known text marker, and the swan — Schwan in German — has been the family emblem for generations.

History of the Stabilo Logo
The consumer logo sets the swan roundel and chunky white capitals on a solid red bar — the same red that floods Stabilo packaging. The swan survives from the Schwanhäußer family name (‘Schwan’ = swan), redrawn over the decades into today’s clean circular badge.
Meaning of the Stabilo Logo
- The swan: a name made visible: Schwan-Stabilo literally carries the swan in its roundel.
- The red bar: a highlighter stroke of red behind the name — the product’s gesture at logo scale.
- The chunky capitals: soft, heavy letters match the pens’ famously comfortable, rounded forms.
