About ABN AMRO
ABN AMRO is a Dutch bank headquartered in Amsterdam and the third-largest bank in the Netherlands. It was created on September 22, 1991, through the merger of Algemene Bank Nederland (ABN) and the Amsterdam-Rotterdam Bank (AMRO) — the name combines their initials, with “AMRO” formed from the first two letters of each city. The bank’s roots trace to 1824 in The Hague. ABN AMRO became famous as the main sponsor of football club AFC Ajax from 1991 to 2008, and today provides retail, private, and corporate banking services across Northwest Europe.
ABN AMRO Logo Meaning and History
The green-and-yellow shield logo was designed by Landor Associates in 1991 for the newly merged bank. The shield itself symbolizes reliability, tradition, protection, and security — the core promises of banking. The distinctive color combination of green (turquoise), yellow, and grey deliberately set the new brand apart from the identities of its predecessor banks and rivals, while remaining modern, distinguished, and clear. The mark proved so strong that subsidiaries worldwide — from Banco Real in Brazil to LaSalle Bank in the United States — adopted the shield as their common brand feature.
ABN AMRO Logo Evolution
- 1991: The merger created ABN AMRO, and Landor Associates’ green-yellow-grey shield launched as the new corporate identity.
- 2003: US subsidiaries Standard Federal and LaSalle Bank adopted the shield alongside their local names, unifying the global brand.
- 2007–2009: Following the consortium takeover and breakup of the original bank, the institution was re-established in 2009, keeping the shield as its enduring symbol.
ABN AMRO Logo Colors and Font
The shield combines a distinctive green-turquoise, a warm yellow-gold, and neutral grey, paired with the “ABN AMRO” name in a professional all-caps sans-serif. The teal-green differentiates the bank from competitors using conventional banking blues and reds. Whether you need an abn amro logo png with a transparent background or an abn amro logo svg vector, the shield remains crisp and recognizable at any size.
