Manitou Logo Overview
Manitou is the flagship brand of France’s Manitou Group, the company that invented the rough-terrain forklift truck in 1958. Its red telehandlers, forklifts and aerial platforms are a fixture of construction sites and farms in more than 140 countries.
- Founded: 1958
- Headquarters: Ancenis-Saint-Géréon, France
- Industry: Construction & Building
- Website: https://www.manitou.com
History of the Manitou Logo
Marcel Braud created the first rough-terrain forklift in 1958 by reversing a farm tractor and fitting a mast — and named the company Manitou, from the French ‘manie tout’ (‘handles everything’). The all-red identity, from the machines to the wordmark, became so distinctive that red telehandlers are simply called ‘Manitous’ across much of Europe.
Meaning of the Manitou Logo
- Red is Manitou: the color of its machines, chosen for visibility and instant recognition on any site.
- The heavy italic capitals lean forward, suggesting a machine always ready to move and lift.
- The small square icon compresses a handler into a glyph, working as an app-like badge on cabs and decals.
