Brand Overview
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is an Indian state-owned aerospace and defense company headquartered in Bengaluru, founded in 1940. It has built India’s air power for eighty years — license-producing MiGs and Jaguars, and designing the Tejas fighter, Dhruv and Prachand helicopters and the HTT-40 trainer — and remains the backbone of Indian military aviation.
- Introduced: 1940, India
- Headquarters: Bengaluru, India

History of the Hindustan Aeronautics Logo
HAL began in 1940 as Hindustan Aircraft, founded by industrialist Walchand Hirachand with the Mysore state, and built its first aircraft — a Harlow trainer — within a year. The logo is a period piece kept in service: a globe for global ambition, a red aircraft trail orbiting it, the company’s name in Devanagari above the Roman initials — a bilingual mark from a bilingual nation, unchanged in spirit across eight decades of Indian aviation.
Meaning of the Hindustan Aeronautics Logo
- The globe: a 1940s promise — an Indian company with the whole sky as its market.
- The orbiting trail: a single aircraft’s red path around the world, drawn as one confident loop.
- Two scripts: Hindi above, Roman below — the company signs in both of its country’s working alphabets.
