Brand Overview
Rheinmetall AG is a German defense and automotive group headquartered in Düsseldorf, founded in 1889. It builds the Leopard 2’s gun systems and much of its ammunition, Lynx and Boxer armoured vehicles, air defense and military electronics, and has become Europe’s largest ammunition maker as the continent rearms.

History of the Rheinmetall Logo
Rheinmetall — ‘Rhine metal’ — was founded to supply the German army with ammunition and grew through two world wars and a long peace. Its 2021 identity sharpened the mark into an angular blue symbol suggesting both an R and a plate of sloped armour, dropping the older roundel forms as the group pivoted back to defense. The wordmark in anthracite keeps the engineering register: heavy, plain, exact.
Meaning of the Rheinmetall Logo
- The angular symbol: an R drawn as sloped armour — protection expressed in geometry.
- The anthracite name: gunmetal grey for the wordmark, the colour of the product line itself.
- Rheinmetall blue: a steel blue accent — the Rhine in the name, rendered as a signal colour.
