Brand Overview
Pratt & Whitney is an American aircraft engine manufacturer headquartered in East Hartford, Connecticut, founded in 1925. An RTX business, it builds the F135 engine for the F-35, the GTF geared turbofan family for airliners, and the PT6 — the most popular turboprop ever made. For a century its name has been shorthand for dependable engines.

History of the Pratt & Whitney Logo
Pratt & Whitney began as a machine-tool company lending its name and factory to Frederick Rentschler’s Wasp engine in 1925; the eagle — borrowed from a dollar-bill engraving — became its mark for most of a century, ringed by the words ‘Dependable Engines’. Under RTX, the corporate lockup now uses the group’s radiating sun device with the name and the line ‘An RTX Business’; the eagle survives on the engines themselves, where mechanics still swear by it.
Meaning of the Pratt & Whitney Logo
- The sun device: the parent group’s radiating mark — fan blades and radar sweeps in one black geometry.
- The name in full: two toolmakers’ surnames from 1860, still the largest words on the building.
- Black on white: the RTX system strips colour away so the same lockup serves airliners and fighters alike.

Conclusion
The eagle’s company, redrawn in the parent’s geometry: the Pratt & Whitney logo keeps the surnames and changes everything else.
