Brand Overview
Spirit AeroSystems is an American manufacturer headquartered in Wichita, Kansas — the ‘Air Capital of the World’. Spun out of Boeing in 2005, it became the world’s largest maker of aerostructures: it builds the 737 fuselage, and nose sections, wings and pylons for nearly every Boeing and Airbus programme, in the same Wichita plant that built B-29 bombers.
- Introduced: 2005, USA

History of the Spirit AeroSystems Logo
Spirit was born in 2005 when Boeing sold its Wichita division — where Boeing itself had built bombers since the 1940s — to Onex, and the plant’s people named their new company for the spirit of flight (and, locally, for the B-2 Spirit built in the region’s tradition). The star mark, a compass point stretched into a jet-age spark, has signed 737 fuselages ever since — full circle, as Boeing later moved to buy its old division back.
Meaning of the Spirit AeroSystems Logo
- The four-point star: a compass point pulled into a spark — navigation and ignition in one blue flash.
- The plain capitals: SPIRIT over AEROSYSTEMS, stated like a data plate on the fuselages it builds.
- Spirit blue: a bright Wichita-sky blue, distinct from both parents it has served.
