Brand Overview
Makita was founded in 1915 in Nagoya, Japan, by Mosaburo Makita as Makita Electric Works, selling and repairing electric motors. It released Japan’s first portable electric planer in 1958 and one of the world’s first cordless drills, the 6500D, in 1969. Today Makita is one of the largest power-tool manufacturers on earth, famous for its teal-coloured tools and its 18V LXT battery platform.

History of the Makita Logo
Early Makita marks mixed Japanese characters with emblems. In the post-war decades the company settled on the flowing white script on red that it still uses: the lettering runs along the bottom edge of the red rectangle and is cut flush by it — a deliberate part of the trademark, not a cropping error. The teal colour everyone associates with Makita is the tool-body colour; the corporate logo itself is red and white, and Makita’s current brand guidelines keep it that way.
Meaning of the Makita Logo
- The red rectangle: Makita’s corporate colour is a bright signal red, chosen for power and visibility on packaging and tool cases.
- The script: the low, forward-leaning italic letterforms suggest speed and momentum — a motor already spinning.
- The flush cut: the letters are sliced by the bottom edge of the box, making the wordmark feel machined rather than drawn.
Makita Logo Colors
| Color | Hex | RGB |
|---|---|---|
| Makita Red | #EC1B24 | 236, 27, 36 |

Red and white — the colours of the Japanese flag — carry the whole identity, with teal left to the tools themselves.
Conclusion
The Makita logo has survived on the strength of one gesture: a fast white signature stamped on red. Download the Makita logo in SVG and transparent PNG formats, free at VectorDose.
