Xbox is Microsoft’s video game brand, launched with the original Xbox console in 2001. The name comes from ‘DirectX Box’ — Microsoft’s DirectX graphics technology behind the console’s visuals. Microsoft entered consoles amid skepticism a software company could challenge Sony and Nintendo — and built one of gaming’s big three. The lineup spans Xbox (2001), Xbox 360 (2005), Xbox One (2013) and Xbox Series X|S (2020), plus Xbox Live and Game Pass.
The Xbox logo has always revolved around two things: the letter X and the color green. The original 1999 wordmark was designed by Horace Luke with only a green neon felt-tip pen — hence green became the signature in a landscape of PlayStation blue. The X itself symbolizes strength and the unknown, the cutting edge of play. The mark evolved from flat wordmark to carved 3D X, to the famous X-in-a-sphere echoing the controller’s power button, to today’s flat emblem — always keeping the green X.
The defining color is Xbox green — a vivid lime-to-forest green that owns the brand’s shelf presence — paired with white, black and gray. The custom blocky sans-serif wordmark has stayed chunky and confident through every era. Whether you need an xbox logo png with a transparent background or an xbox logo svg vector for crisp scaling, the green X stays unmistakable at any size.
