Under Armour is an American sportswear company based in Baltimore, Maryland. It was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank, a former University of Maryland football player who wanted a better athletic shirt than sweat-soaked cotton. His moisture-wicking synthetic base layer caught on with college and NFL players, and from that one product the company grew into a global performance brand making apparel, footwear, and accessories.
The brand built its name on performance technology and an aggressive, competitive attitude, and its gear has been worn by champions across football, basketball, golf, and boxing.
The logo is an interlocking U and A forming a compact, symmetrical monogram. The U sits within the arms of the A, and the overall silhouette reads like a stylized shield or chest armor, a direct nod to the brand name. The sharp, angular geometry has no soft edges, giving the mark its aggressive, performance-driven character.
Created with the brand’s founding in 1996, the mark has been its signature from day one. The company’s original name was almost “Body Armor,” and the emblem’s protective feel reflects that idea of strength and defense.
The palette centers on black (#000000) and white (#FFFFFF), usually a solid black mark, with red accents used for energy and performance. The wordmark is a custom bold, slightly italicized sans-serif, commonly compared to Eurostile Extended Bold by font-identification sites, though the official lettering is proprietary.
