About Transformers
Transformers is a media franchise created by American toy company Hasbro and Japanese toy company Takara Tomy, launched in 1984. Hasbro rebranded Takara’s Diaclone and Micro Change transforming-robot toys for Western markets, with Marvel Comics creating the backstory: the heroic Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, battle the villainous Decepticons, led by Megatron — alien robots from Cybertron that transform into vehicles and animals. The franchise spans toys, animation, comics, and video games; the live-action film series that began in 2007 has grossed $5.42 billion across nine films.
Transformers Logo Meaning and History
The franchise is defined by its two faction insignias: the Autobot badge — a red, heroic robotic face — and the Decepticon badge — a purple, menacing face. The franchise wordmark itself is angular and metallic, evoking transforming machinery. Together, the insignias and wordmark make Transformers one of the most merchandised entertainment brands in the world.
