Swatch Logo Overview
Swatch is the playful Swiss watch brand credited with saving the Swiss watch industry in the 1980s, selling colourful, affordable plastic watches that turned the wristwatch into a fashion accessory collected by millions.
- Founded: 1983
- Headquarters: Biel/Bienne, Switzerland
- Industry: Watches
- Website: https://www.swatch.com
History of the Swatch Logo
Launched in 1983 as a response to cheap quartz competition, the first Swatch cost little, came in bright colours and was marketed as a ‘second watch’ for fun rather than formality. The brand’s success funded the rescue of the Swiss industry and grew into the Swatch Group, the world’s largest watch group.
Meaning of the Swatch Logo
- The lowercase letters feel friendly and informal, matching watches made for fun, not formality.
- The red cross is a direct nod to Switzerland, the home of watchmaking.
- The plus-like cross also reads as a positive sign — the brand’s optimistic attitude.
