About Salesforce
Salesforce is an American cloud software company founded in 1999 by Marc Benioff — a former Oracle executive — in San Francisco, California. It pioneered software-as-a-service for business, replacing expensive on-premise installations with applications delivered over the internet, and built its business around its signature “No Software” philosophy.
Best known for its customer relationship management (CRM) platform, Salesforce has grown into one of the world’s largest enterprise software companies, with product families including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, plus acquisitions such as Slack and Tableau, all headquartered in the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco.
Logo Meaning and History
The Salesforce logo is a friendly, rounded cloud with the company’s name written across it — one of the most literal logos in tech. The cloud directly represents the company’s cloud-computing architecture, the foundation of everything Salesforce sells, while its soft, asymmetrical curves are drawn thicker on one side to suggest gentle forward motion rather than a rigid, static shape.
The word “Salesforce” itself comes from Benioff’s vision of automating sales forces with internet software. Keeping the same cloud silhouette since 1999 has given the brand unusual consistency: across decades of acquisitions and product launches, the cloud remains the unifying symbol that ties every Salesforce product to the same trusted platform.
Evolution
- 1999 – The original logo debuts: a glossy 3D-style cloud with a radial gradient flowing from white at the center to aqua blue at the edges, with the lowercase “salesforce” wordmark split between a gray “sales” and a black “force.”
- 2008 – Salesforce rolls out its “No Software” campaign variant, pairing the cloud with a red prohibition symbol to declare the end of traditional on-premise software.
- 2014 – Fifteen years after founding, the logo is redesigned for the flat-design era: the gradient and 3D outline are dropped, the cloud becomes a single solid blue, and the wordmark turns entirely white in a cleaner sans-serif.
- 2017 – Salesforce introduces Salesforce Sans, its proprietary corporate typeface, completing the modernization of the brand system.
Colors and Font
The current logo is rendered in Salesforce’s signature “Cloud Blue,” officially #0176D3, on white — a deliberately simple two-color palette meant to feel professional, trustworthy, and calm. The wordmark is set in Salesforce Sans, the company’s custom sans-serif typeface, with smooth, rounded letterforms that echo the friendly curves of the cloud itself.
