Brand Overview
Saab AB is a Swedish aerospace and defense company founded in 1937 as Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget. Headquartered in Stockholm, it builds the Gripen fighter, Erieye airborne radar, Carl-Gustaf weapon systems, submarines and torpedoes, and is the backbone of Swedish defense — its motto: keeping people and society safe.

History of the Saab Logo
Saab began building aircraft for a neutral Sweden bracing for war, and its early marks showed propellers and wings. The crowned griffin of Scania’s coat of arms — shared with Scania trucks — became the house emblem, while the wordmark settled into the four squared capitals used today. In the current identity the name stands alone in silver-grey, most often reversed out of Saab’s deep blue fields; the griffin roundel survives as a heritage mark beside it.
Meaning of the Saab Logo
- Four letters: an acronym turned into a name — Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget compressed into a word the world can say.
- The squared cut: letters built like airframe sections, flat-faced and rivet-plain.
- Silver grey: the colour of unpainted metal and northern light — the wordmark as bare aircraft skin.

An acronym in bare metal: the Saab logo trusts four letters to carry a nation’s defense industry.
