Norton Motorcycles Overview
Norton is one of Britain’s most storied motorcycle marques — maker of the Commando and the V4 superbikes — revived under TVS Motor ownership since 2020.
- Founded: 1898
- Headquarters: Solihull, England
- Industry: Motorcycles
- Website: nortonmotorcycles.com
History of the Norton Motorcycles Logo
Norton was founded in Birmingham in 1898 by James Lansdowne Norton, and its cursive script logo — said to have been drawn by Norton’s daughter Ethel — appeared before the First World War and became the marque’s signature. After the classic Commando era and several revivals, TVS Motor bought Norton in 2020 and rebuilt it in Solihull with the Commando 961 and V4 ranges. The file presented here is the current script logo in the white version served by Norton’s official website. The current Norton logo presented on this page is the official mark in use today, kept in its original colors and proportions.
Meaning of the Norton Motorcycles Logo
- The flowing script with its long cross-stroke is handwriting, not type — a craftsman’s signature on every tank.
- The design survived from the 1910s because nothing about it needed fixing: it IS the brand.
- The white version is the form Norton itself publishes for dark backgrounds on its official site.
