History of the Leonardo Logo
For nearly seventy years the group answered to Finmeccanica, a name only a ministry could love. In 2017 it renamed itself Leonardo — after Leonardo da Vinci, who sketched helicopters and flying machines five centuries before they could be built — and adopted a single red identity. The swirling symbol, carried over and sharpened, reads as rotor blades and propeller arcs: da Vinci’s aerial screw, industrialised.
Meaning of the Leonardo Logo
- The rotor swirl: curved blades in rotation — helicopters, propellers and the inventor’s aerial screw in one red gesture.
- The italic capitals: the name leans into the wind, set in the same red as the symbol for a single-block signature.
- Leonardo red: a signal red with Italian racing in its blood — impossible to mistake on a fuselage or a stand.
