Kongsberg Gruppen is a Norwegian technology and defense group headquartered in Kongsberg, founded in 1814 as the Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk, a royal arms factory. History of the Kongsberg Logo
Kongsberg began as a crown factory — the Norwegian state founded it in 1814, the year of Norway’s constitution, to arm a new nation. The emblem keeps that origin in plain sight: a red shield-field carrying a gold crowned monogram drawn from the royal factory mark, two centuries old and still struck on every product. The serifed name beside it is set like an inscription, not an advertisement.
Meaning of the Kongsberg Logo
- The crowned monogram: a royal factory’s stamp from 1814 — state authority carried into a modern technology group.
- The red field: the shield colour of Norwegian arms, kept unbroken for two hundred years.
- The inscription type: serif capitals carved rather than drawn — permanence as the brand promise.
