About the FedEx Logo
Introduction
Five letters, two colours, and an arrow hiding in the white space — the FedEx logo is the most celebrated wordmark in logistics. It signs the Memphis express pioneer founded in 1971, and this download carries the full corporate lockup, “Corporation” line included.
Brand Overview
FedEx (FedEx Corporation) is an American transportation and logistics company founded in 1971 by Frederick W. Smith — launched as Federal Express in Little Rock, Arkansas, and built from its Memphis hub into the company that invented the overnight express industry. Its official website is fedex.com.
History of the FedEx Logo
The current wordmark was designed in 1994 by Lindon Leader of Landor Associates, compressing “Federal Express” into the name customers already used. The purple-and-orange version in this download — with the Corporation line beneath — is the parent-company lockup carried in the company’s own 2016 artwork, the file the FedEx Wikipedia article uses as its logo.
Meaning of the Logo
- The hidden arrow: The white space between the E and the x forms a forward arrow — the most famous negative-space device in logo design, pointing at speed and precision.
- FedEx purple: A deep violet (#652C8F) for “Fed” — the colour of the parent brand since the 1994 identity.
- Express orange: A hot orange (#FF6600) for “Ex” — in the colour system, orange marks the express operating company.
FedEx Logo Colors
| Color | Hex Code | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| FedEx Purple | #652C8F | The “Fed” letters and the Corporation line (the logo file’s own fill value) |
| FedEx Orange | #FF6600 | The “Ex” letters (the logo file’s own fill value) |
Both colours are the artwork’s own fill values, taken from the logo file itself.
Conclusion
FedEx’s logo hides its promise in plain sight: an arrow in the white space, flying forward between the E and the x.
