Introduction
Calligraphic green lettering with a hop leaf perched on top — the Carlsberg logo in this download is “probably” the most artistic wordmark in beer.
Brand Overview
Carlsberg is a Danish brewing company founded in 1847 by J. C. Jacobsen in Copenhagen, Denmark — he named it for his son Carl and the hill (“bjerg”) the brewery stood on. Its pilsner, brewed with the pure yeast strain Jacobsen isolated in 1883, anchors one of the world’s largest brewing groups. Its official website is carlsberg.com.
History of the Carlsberg Logo
The lettering is a work of art in the literal sense: in 1904 the Danish artist Thorvald Bindesbøll — better known for silverware and furniture — hand-drew the flowing Art Nouveau wordmark, complete with the hop leaf that still crowns it. It survived the entire twentieth century untouched, and in 2018 the design studio Taxi Studio led a careful restoration: Bindesbøll’s strokes were refined, the palette unified into a single deep green, and the hop redrawn — the version reproduced in this download, taken from Carlsberg’s own website.
Meaning of the Logo
- The hop leaf: The ingredient as signature — a brewer’s mark perched where a crown would sit.
- Art Nouveau lettering: Bindesbøll’s 1904 hand gives an industrial lager the elegance of Danish design heritage.
- Carlsberg Green: One deep green, standardised in 2018, now runs from bottle to billboard worldwide.
Carlsberg Logo Colors
| Color | Hex Code | Usage |
|---|---|---|

Green is the artwork’s only colour, and the space around the wordmark in this download is fully transparent.
Conclusion
Carlsberg’s logo was drawn by an artist in 1904 and merely dusted off in 2018 — proof that great lettering does not age.
