Careem is the Middle East’s pioneering ride-hailing and super-app company, founded in Dubai in 2012 by Mudassir Sheikha, Magnus Olsson, and Abdulla Elyas. Starting as a chauffeur-booking service, Careem grew into a regional tech champion offering ride-hailing, food delivery, digital payments, and courier services across more than 70 cities in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. In 2020, Uber acquired Careem for $3.1 billion — one of the largest tech acquisitions in the region’s history. Today, the Careem super-app continues to operate as a distinct brand serving millions of customers. Beyond rides, the Careem super-app now offers food delivery, digital payments, and bike rentals, competing head-to-head with regional super-apps. The company’s ‘Captains’ — its drivers — are central to a brand built on dignity and opportunity.
The Careem logo features a friendly, rounded wordmark in a distinctive green — a color associated with growth, go, and the brand’s “drive” spirit. The lowercase, approachable typography reflects Careem’s customer-first, human-centered brand personality, standing apart from the corporate feel of traditional transport companies. The identity has evolved from its early chauffeur-service days into a vibrant super-app brand, with the green mark now recognized across the region on cars, bikes, and delivery packaging. The friendly lowercase wordmark was a deliberate break from corporate transport branding, signaling a human, customer-obsessed tech company.
