Apple Music is Apple’s music streaming service, launched on June 30, 2015 and announced at WWDC 2015. It replaced Beats Music after Apple’s 2014 acquisition of Beats Electronics, bringing Apple’s ecosystem a full on-demand music catalog, curated playlists, live radio, and artist-exclusive content. Integrated into every iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch, it has grown into one of the world’s largest streaming platforms, competing head-to-head with Spotify.
The Apple Music logo pairs the bitten-apple emblem with the word “Music,” keeping the brand unmistakably tied to Apple’s broader ecosystem. The app icon tells the more colorful story: a white musical note set on a vivid gradient background. The original 2015 icon used a technicolor blend of pink, orange, and purple — a burst of color meant to suggest the energy and diversity of music itself, and a nod to the rainbow spectrum of Apple’s historic 1977 logo. A 2019 refinement changed the wordmark to a capital “M” with lowercase “usic,” giving the lockup a friendlier, more modern rhythm while keeping the bitten apple untouched.
The primary lockup is monochrome — black (#000000) on white — for maximum simplicity and sophistication. The app icon carries the brand’s signature pink-red gradient background behind a white musical note. The wordmark is set in a clean, geometric sans-serif that matches Apple’s minimalist design language.
