Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen is a German high-performance car brand founded in 1965 by Burkard Bovensiepen in Buchloe, Bavaria. The story began in 1962, when Bovensiepen — a young engineering student steering clear of his family’s typewriter business — tuned his BMW 1500 with dual-Weber carburetors, making it three seconds quicker to 60 mph than stock. That caught BMW’s attention, and in February 1965 Alpina became a certified BMW tuner whose modified cars carried the full factory warranty. Alpina grew from eight employees to seventy within five years and was recognized by Germany’s Ministry of Transport as an automobile manufacturer. BMW Group acquired Alpina in 2022, and on January 1, 2026, full trademark rights transferred — relaunching BMW Alpina as a standalone luxury brand positioned between BMW and Rolls-Royce.
The classic Alpina badge is built around two engine components — a throttle body and a crankshaft — inspired by the very parts Alpina first modified: carburetors and crankshafts.
The classic badge combined red, blue, black, white and silver around the roundel; the modern vector wordmark is rendered in Alpina blue (#0094D6). The 2026 redesign drops the red-and-blue color for a calmer neutral two-tone execution.
