About the Alfa Logo

About Alfa

Alfa is a Lebanese telecommunications company and one of the country’s two mobile network operators. The brand name belongs to Mobile Interim Company 1 (MIC1), founded in 1994 under the name Cellis and managed by France Telecom. In 2004 the network was renamed Alfa, and in 2020 its management transferred to the Lebanese government. Headquartered in Furn el Chebbak, Alfa launched Lebanon’s first 3G+ network in 2011 and was the first operator in the country to introduce 4G-LTE and 4G+ services, serving around two million subscribers.

Alfa Logo Meaning and History

The Alfa logo is a clean lowercase “alfa” wordmark. The name itself — the first letter of the Greek alphabet — signals primacy, fitting for the brand behind Lebanon’s first mobile network. Its bold red identity is one of the most recognizable telecom marks in the country, seen on storefronts and SIM packaging across Lebanon.

Evolution of the Alfa Logo

  • 1994: The network launches as Cellis (MIC1) under France Telecom management.
  • 2004: The Lebanese government’s management contract renames the Cellis network as Alfa.
  • 2011: Alfa launches Lebanon’s first 3G+ technology, cementing the red brand nationally.
  • 2020: Network management transfers to the Lebanese government under a new board.
  • Today: The Alfa wordmark remains the face of Lebanon’s pioneering mobile network.
