Akademisk Boldklub, commonly known as AB, is one of Denmark’s oldest and most storied football clubs, founded on 26 February 1889 in Copenhagen. The club later moved to Gladsaxe, where it plays at Gladsaxe Stadium. AB has won the Danish championship nine times and is famous for its green-and-white colors and its owl mascot, which symbolizes wisdom — a nod to the club’s academic roots. Among its legendary figures is physicist Niels Bohr, the Nobel laureate, who played as a goalkeeper for the club in his youth. Akademisk Boldklub remains an icon of Danish football heritage and Copenhagen sporting culture.
The Akademisk Boldklub logo is a classic Danish football crest featuring the club’s green-and-white colors and, in many versions, the wise owl that has become the team’s beloved symbol. The owl represents the club’s academic origins — AB was founded by academics and students — and sets the badge apart from the lions, eagles, and stars common in football heraldry. Traditional versions of the crest include the founding year 1889 and the “AB” monogram in an elegant shield, reflecting nineteenth-century sporting aesthetics. The logo has been carefully preserved through the club’s history, remaining a proud emblem of one of Danish football’s founding institutions.
