Activision is an American video game publisher founded in 1979 by former Atari programmers — the first independent developer and publisher of console games, created so designers could finally get credit and royalties for their work. The company defined multiple gaming eras, from Atari 2600’s Pitfall! to Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. In 2008 Activision merged with Vivendi Games to form Activision Blizzard, and in October 2023 Microsoft completed its acquisition of the company for nearly $69 billion — one of the largest deals in entertainment history.
The original 1979 logo, designed by Landor Associates, paired a custom wordmark with a rainbow of colored bars flowing from the “A” — the rainbow symbolized the diversity of the business and its vivid, eye-catching approach to game design. Its signature was the enlarged “V,” whose extended bars joined the “T” and stretched over the dotted “I’s,” resembling a bird with outstretched wings. In 1992 the rainbow was dropped in favor of a stark monochrome wordmark, signaling a mature, focused company confident in its legacy.
The current logo is solid black on white, set in a custom Futura-like sans-serif with sharp angles — the enlarged “A,” “T,” and “V” forming its unmistakable silhouette. The classic 1979–1988 version used a full rainbow spectrum. Whether you need an activision logo png with a transparent background or an activision logo svg vector for gaming content, the wordmark is crisp and authoritative at any size.
