About Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO is a free-to-play augmented reality mobile game developed by Niantic in collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. Launched in July 2016 for iOS and Android, the game lets players discover, catch, battle, and train virtual Pokémon that appear in real-world locations using GPS. It became a worldwide phenomenon within weeks of release, breaking download records and inspiring millions of players to explore their neighborhoods together.

Logo Meaning and History

The Pokémon GO logo builds on the classic Pokémon wordmark — “Pokémon” rendered in bright yellow with a blue outline — paired with a bold blue “GO” beneath it, where the letter O is replaced by a Poké Ball. The design captures the spirit of the game: the familiar Pokémon identity fused with the call to get up and go outside. The Poké Ball at the center has become one of the most recognizable symbols in mobile gaming.

Evolution

• 2016 – The original launch logo pairs the classic yellow-and-blue Pokémon wordmark with a blue “GO,” the O formed by a Poké Ball.
• 2017–2019 – The mark stays consistent as the game adds new generations of Pokémon and worldwide live events.
• 2020 – A subtle refresh sharpens the lettering and colors for the game’s fourth anniversary.
• 2021–present – Anniversary variants and event branding appear, while the core logo remains unchanged and instantly recognizable.

Colors and Font

The logo uses the franchise’s signature Pokémon yellow (#FFCB05) with a deep blue outline (#2A75BB), echoed in the solid blue “GO” lettering. The red-and-white Poké Ball adds the franchise’s most iconic accent. The wordmark is a custom rounded typeface unique to Pokémon, while “GO” is set in a bold, friendly sans-serif that emphasizes motion and adventure.
