Arthur A. Levine Books is a children’s book imprint of Scholastic, founded in 1996. The imprint has produced more than 300 works of hardcover fiction, picture books, and nonfiction for children and teenagers. It is best known as the U.S. publisher of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was published under the imprint in September 1998 with an initial print run of 50,000 copies. Levine also introduced North American readers to Markus Zusak and published Philip Pullman’s acclaimed The Golden Compass. In 2019 Arthur Levine left Scholastic to found his own independent publishing company, while Scholastic retained Harry Potter and the imprint’s backlist.
The imprint carries the name of its founder and editor, Arthur A. Levine, reflecting his personal editorial vision: publishing the best of the world’s literature for young readers – books children would remember for the rest of their lives. The logo is an understated wordmark that lets the imprint’s celebrated titles take center stage.
The imprint’s mark is a classic literary wordmark, typically rendered in black – a timeless choice for a children’s literature brand.
