About Atlas Sound
Atlas Sound is an American manufacturer of commercial audio and communications equipment, founded in 1934 by Bob Reinhardt and Carl Blumenthal. The company made its name in the early days of the commercial sound industry: in 1934 it became the first company to combine the horn shape of the megaphone with electro-acoustics to create outdoor public-address loudspeakers. From microphone stands to complete sound systems, Atlas Sound grew into a leading supplier for airports, schools, houses of worship, and hospitality venues. In 2011, Atlas Sound merged with Innovative Electronic Designs (IED) to form AtlasIED, which celebrated 90 years in business in 2024 as a family-owned company manufacturing in Ennis, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona.
Atlas Sound Logo Meaning and History
The Atlas Sound logo is a sturdy industrial wordmark befitting a manufacturer — straightforward lettering that reflects the company’s metalworking roots. Founders Reinhardt and Blumenthal began as tool and die makers building microphone stands, and the no-frills branding matched a company that sold on engineering reliability rather than flash, from LaGuardia Airport installations to systems used by acts from the Beatles to Whitney Houston.
