History of the BHP Logo
BHP began in 1885 as the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, mining silver and lead at Broken Hill in New South Wales, and later became BHP Billiton after the 2001 merger with Billiton, before shortening its name back to BHP in 2017. The bold orange BHP wordmark was introduced with the 2017 rebrand, replacing the earlier maroon identity, and the current BHP logo presented on this page is the official mark in use today, kept in its original colors and proportions.
Meaning of the BHP Logo
- The heavy, block-like capitals convey industrial strength, scale and reliability.
- The vivid orange echoes the red-orange earth of Australia’s mining heartlands and the company’s Australian roots.
- The plain three-letter wordmark expresses confidence and simplicity — a company that lets its name speak for itself.
