The Trump Organization is an American conglomerate spanning real estate, hotels, golf courses and brand licensing, based in Trump Tower, New York City. It began as Fred Trump’s company, focused on middle-class rental housing in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. In 1971 Donald Trump became president and began using ‘The Trump Organization’ as an umbrella brand, moving into Manhattan developments including Trump Tower (opened 1983). After the 2016 presidential election, Trump resigned all management roles and moved his business assets into a revocable trust managed by his sons Donald Jr. and Eric.
The signature mark is the gold ‘TRUMP’ wordmark in monumental capitals — the brand’s visual language of luxury. Trump Tower’s letters stand 34 inches tall in Stymie Extra Bold, a slab serif chosen by architect Der Scutt — reportedly doubled in size at Trump’s request. Earlier, the company used a T-shaped steel-beam logo from the 1970s to the 1990s, and a golden T resembling a gold bar in the 2000s. Trump golf properties also use a coat of arms adapted from 1939 arms of Joseph E. Davies, adopted after the 1985 Mar-a-Lago purchase.
The palette is metallic gold and brass, black and white. The serif capitals project wealth and permanence — the equity behind the licensing business.
