Tengen was a video game publisher and developer created by Atari Games in December 1987 to publish console games without the Atari name. It became famous for unlicensed black NES cartridges and a legal battle with Nintendo over circumventing the NES lockout chip.
The company was folded into Time Warner Interactive in 1994.
