About Rockstar Games
Rockstar Games is an American video game publisher based in New York City, best known for the Grand Theft Auto series. Established in December 1998 as a Take-Two Interactive subsidiary using assets from BMG Interactive, it was founded by Sam Houser, Dan Houser, Terry Donovan, Jamie King, and Gary Foreman. Rockstar took over the Grand Theft Auto franchise from BMG Interactive — publisher of the original 1997 game — Grand Theft Auto V (September 2013) has sold over 220 million copies, making it the second-best-selling video game of all time. Other franchises include Red Dead, Max Payne, Midnight Club, and Manhunt.
Rockstar Games Logo Meaning and History
The Rockstar Games logo is one of gaming’s most enduring marks: a large black italic letter “R” merged with a five-pointed white star, set on an orange square with rounded corners and thin black outlines. The star is a literal play on “rockstar” — the celebrity status the company’s games both depict and enjoy. The design has not changed since 1998; every Rockstar studio worldwide uses the same structure with different color schemes.
Rockstar Games Logo Evolution
- 1994–1998: Predecessor BMG Interactive uses a black serif “BMG” logotype with a burgundy triangle and “INTERACTIVE” below a red line.
- 1998: Rockstar Games is founded and introduces its iconic logo: the black italic “R” joined to a white five-pointed star on an orange rounded square.
- 1999: Rockstar Canada (later Rockstar Toronto) becomes the first studio, establishing the system of studio logos sharing the mark with different colors.
Rockstar Games Logo Colors and Font
The Rockstar Games mark pairs a vivid orange square (approximately #FCAF17) with a black italic “R” and a white star outlined in black. The orange conveys energy and rebelliousness; the italic “R” contrasts with the geometric star. Whether you need a rockstar games logo png with a transparent background or a rockstar games logo svg vector for crisp scaling, the flat, high-contrast artwork stays recognizable at any size.
