About the REWE Logo Logo
Introduction
Four white capitals on a red slab — the REWE logo in this download is the current identity of Germany’s second-largest supermarket group.
Brand Overview
REWE is a German supermarket group whose cooperative roots go back to 1927 in Cologne, where regional purchasing associations united as the Revisionsverband der Westkauf-Genossenschaften — REWE for short. Headquartered in Cologne, the REWE Group today runs thousands of supermarkets and discount stores (including PENNY) across Germany and Europe, as one of the continent’s biggest food retailers. Its official website is rewe.de.
History of the REWE Logo
The four initials have been set on red for decades, but the current form — tight white capitals in a red rounded rectangle, standardised as REWE unified its store brands under one name in the 2000s — turned every shopfront into the same red sign. The badge in this download is that primary mark, as it appears over REWE stores across Germany today.
Meaning of the Logo
- The red slab: The rectangle is a market-stall sign and a shelf-edge ticket at once — the most familiar rectangle in German daily life.
- Four initials, no name: REWE never spells itself out; the acronym of a 1927 cooperative audit union became a household word.
- White on red: The highest-contrast pairing in retail — readable through rain, at speed, from the far end of a car park.
REWE Logo Colors
| Color | Hex Code | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| REWE Red | #CC071E | The slab field (the logo file’s own style value) |
| White | #FFFFFF | The REWE lettering |
The red slab is part of the logo itself — a self-contained sign — so the artwork in this download is the complete slab with no extra background added.
Conclusion
REWE’s logo is German retail at its most economical: four white initials, one red slab, and a cooperative’s acronym turned into a national landmark.
