About the Prudential Logo

Introduction

A blue rock in a circle beside a blue serif name — the Prudential logo has promised strength for nearly 150 years. The rock is real: it is Gibraltar, and the insurer borrowed it to say one thing — we do not move.

Brand Overview

Prudential (Prudential Financial, Inc.) is an American financial services and insurance company founded in Newark, New Jersey, in 1875 by John Fairfield Dryden, a pioneer of industrial insurance for working families. Headquartered in Newark to this day, it is one of the largest life insurers in the United States, with businesses spanning insurance, annuities, retirement, and investment management worldwide. (It is a separate company from Britain’s Prudential plc, with which it shares only the name.) Its official website is prudential.com.

History of the Prudential Logo

Prudential adopted the Rock of Gibraltar as its symbol in the 1890s, after an advertising artist linked the company’s name with the famous fortress — and with the slogan “The Prudential has the strength of Gibraltar”. The rock, drawn inside a circle with waves at its base, became one of the longest-lived symbols in American business. The current version, the one in this download, sets the simplified blue rock beside the name in a classical blue serif — the same pairing that tops the company’s Newark towers.

Meaning of the Logo

  • The Rock of Gibraltar: The fortress that guards the Mediterranean’s gate — strength, permanence, and a promise that the company will still be standing when a claim comes due.
  • The circle and waves: The rock rises from the sea inside a seal-like roundel — a stamp of guarantee on every policy.
  • Prudential blue: A clear, corporate blue — the rock in the colour of trust rather than grey stone.

Prudential Logo Colors

Color Hex Code Usage
Prudential Blue #007AC1 The rock symbol and the wordmark (the logo file’s own fill value)
White #FFFFFF Backgrounds and reversed applications

A single blue carries both symbol and name — the artwork’s only fill, used with Gibraltar-like consistency.

Conclusion

Prudential’s logo is a 19th-century metaphor that never wore out: buy from us, it says, and you buy the strength of Gibraltar.
