Introduction
Two-tone chunky capitals with a red ball bouncing over the name — the PetSmart logo in this download is the current identity of North America’s largest pet superstore chain.
Brand Overview
PetSmart is an American chain of pet superstores founded in 1986 by Jim and Janice Dougherty, whose first two stores opened in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1987 under the name PetFood Warehouse. Headquartered in Phoenix, PetSmart runs more than 1,650 stores in the United States and Canada, combining retail with grooming, boarding, training and adoption centres run with PetSmart Charities. Its official website is petsmart.com.
History of the PetSmart Logo
The company renamed itself Pet Smart in 1989, and the bouncing ball arrived as the chain nationalised in the 1990s. The current lockup splits the name in two: PET in red, SMART in blue, with blue swooshes arcing behind a red ball above the join — a design that has fronted the superstores for decades with only careful refinements since.
Meaning of the Logo
- The bouncing ball: A toy frozen mid-bounce over the wordmark — play is the whole business, drawn as a single red dot.
- Two names in two colours: PET glows warm red, SMART sits in cool blue: emotion first, expertise second, in that order.
- The swooshes: The blue arcs trace the ball’s flight path, giving a static sign the motion of a game of fetch.
PetSmart Logo Colors
| Color | Hex Code | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| PetSmart Red | #DD2834 | The PET lettering and the bouncing ball (the logo file’s own fill value) |
| PetSmart Blue | #206EF6 | The SMART lettering and the swooshes |
Red and blue are the artwork’s only colours, and the space around the lockup in this download is fully transparent.
Conclusion
PetSmart’s logo is a game of fetch caught at its highest point: a red ball, two swooshes, and a name split neatly between heart and head.
